The owner of “My old Dutch” on the Kings Road commissioned this new house for him and his family. With Planning consent for a small house on a restricted footprint and a large tree with a preservation order, this contemporary home was designed to offer spacious accommodation within the numerous restraints imposed upon us.
Using the natural steep slope of the site, we were able to incorporate a basement garage and workshop in addition to 2 generous floors of accommodation within restrictive heights. Navigating through the Dulwich College estates and the council we achieved an elegant imposing building at the top of the hill. The open plan, minimal circulation and positioned windows resulted in a great feeling of space and light throughout.
Despite new owners coming in prior to building works and making various compromises, the spirit of the design remains.
