The existing basement was dark, enclosed and remote from the garden. Our brief was to create a light and spacious open plan family room differentiated with spaces of activity and a strong relationship to the garden.
The individually designed food preparation area is intended as the hub of the basement floor and has a visual connection to all the surrounding areas of activity. These consist of a winter snug, WC and Utility room, walk in larder and a dining area, and music/computer station.
Sliding folding patio doors open the dining area into the landscaped garden.
Intelligent lighting and audio visual technologies have also been incorporated. The open plan stair has been archived by a concealed five curtain at the top landing which comes down when the alarm is activated.
Eco file: Energy efficient low temperature Underfloor heating was used throughout. Low voltage and energy efficient lighting integrated into intelligent lighting scheme.
